This is the first-ever Fire & Knives Games -- a lightly competitive, team-based outdoor challenge for kids in grades 1-4 who love the outdoors. Teams rotate through skill stations that test grit, teamwork, and outdoor know-how. Every kid earns something. No one goes home empty-handed.
Claim Your Spot →Fire & Knives is an outdoor education program for elementary-aged kids that teaches real skills in real conditions -- knife safety, fire building, wilderness navigation, natural shelters, foraging, and more.
We believe kids are more capable than we give them credit for. They can handle a sharp knife. They can start a fire safely. They can read a trail and build a shelter. When we hand them real tools and real responsibility -- with experienced instructors guiding them -- something shifts. Confidence grows. Fear becomes curiosity.
The Games are a chance for any kid who loves the outdoors to experience that world for a day alongside other kids who feel the same way.

About the Fire & Knives program
"Before Fire and Knives, our son was afraid to try any new activity or class without a parent. This is the first class that he joined without hesitation and returned to each week completely excited to go. He came home raving about what he learned. Signing my son up was one of the best parenting decisions I have ever made."
— Parent of a 2nd grader
"Our daughter is a little tentative and nervous, and throughout this course, she not only learned some excellent skills, she also grew in confidence and learned how to face her fears!"
— Parent of a 1st grader
"My son loved Fire & Knives! There is nothing else like it! I loved that it got the kids outside in the winter and taught them safety while showing them how to properly use and enjoy tools and the outdoors."
— Parent of a Kindergartner
"My husband and I love that this program exists. Our daughter ran out of every single Fire and Knives class in a good mood. We would love for there to be more of this type of programming — perhaps as a standing class, not just an after school program."
— Parent of a 3rd grader

Drop-off is completely optional. Families and siblings are welcome for the whole event. The opening ceremony at 9:00 AM and the closing ceremony at 12:30 PM are both genuine family moments — cheer on your kid, watch the awards, and share the s'mores together. If you drop off after the opening, just come back by 12:30.
The Games happen rain or shine. Fire & Knives is an outdoor program — kids are expected to be outside in all weather. Dress your child for the conditions: layers, waterproof shoes, and a rain jacket if there's any chance of precipitation.
Clothes they can move in and get dirty. Closed-toe shoes are required. No sandals or flip-flops. Layers are smart — mornings in June can still be cool. They'll receive their official event t-shirt at check-in, but they should wear something underneath.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Parents and siblings are welcome on-site all day. The opening ceremony (9:00 AM) and closing ceremony (12:30 PM) are the highlights for families — don't miss either. Hale Education has beautiful trails and open woods to explore during the games if you want to wander.
Yes! Siblings are welcome and encouraged. The opening and closing ceremonies are fun for the whole family. During the games themselves, kids are spread across multiple stations — so it's less of a sit-and-watch event in the middle, but very much a family event at the start and finish.
Not at all. The Games are open to any kid in grades 1-4 who loves the outdoors — Fire & Knives students and alumni very much welcome, as are kids who've never taken one of our classes. Teams will be balanced so everyone can jump in and have a great time.
There's a field in the registration form for allergies and medical notes. We'll do our best to accommodate. If your child has a serious allergy, please email us at fireknivesclub@gmail.com before registering so we can talk through options.
Per child. Each registered participant gets a t-shirt, team placement, full access to all skill stations, lunch, s'mores, and the awards ceremony.
